Most people go to Siargao to do two things: surf and party. And I totally get that. Siargao’s surf scene is incredible, and General Luna (the island’s main tourism hub) is a place I could easily stay in for months.
But Siargao has tons of areas to stay in that are away from the busy scene in General Luna!
Some are even just outside of General Luna, so you can jump into the action when you want it, and then escape it when you don’t.
Other spots are tucked away on the far side of the island, completely removed from the party and surf scene. Relaxing destinations where you can get away from it all.
In this guide, I break down the different areas to stay in Siargao based on our experience there. I cover what each area offers, who it’s best for, and why you might love (or hate) it. I’ll also share my top picks for hotels, homestays, and hostels in each one.
So no matter what your budget or vibe is, this guide will help you find your perfect base in Siargao.

Best Areas to Stay in Siargao
First, let’s take a tour of Siargao to get a layout of the island itself!
Siargao’s main tourism area is based around General Luna on the southeastern side of the island. It’s home to the legendary Cloud 9 surf break, along with most of the island’s hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, and shops.
General Luna is where most people stay, and by far the most convenient area.

Adjacent to General Luna are the areas of Santa Fe and Malinao.
These used to be quiet local communities, but because of their proximity to General Luna, they’ve started to become developed. But they still retain their peaceful vibe, so they’re ideal if you want to stay near the action but sleep somewhere relaxed.

Moving up the island’s eastern coast, we get to Pacifico. It’s a long, white sandy beach with its own surf break.
Pacifico is a common day trip destination for people who want to get away from the crowded beaches in General Luna. But Pacifico is also an awesome place to stay if you’re looking for a beach vacation in a more low-key area.

And once we head north past Pacifico, things really slow down.
Burgos and Alegria are much more remote. These areas are far removed from the party and surf scene on the rest of the island.
They’re perfect if you want to unplug and get away from it all. Prices tend to be a bit lower in Burgos and Alegria, too.

The entire western side of Siargao isn’t really geared toward tourists. It’s more of a commerce and infrastructure area. There aren’t any beaches there, and accommodations are limited.
If you rent a motorbike in Siargao, then it will be easy for you to explore the island, no matter where you stay. Siargao’s small enough that you can ride from one extreme end to the other in about 90 minutes. (Read our guide to renting a motorbike in the Philippines here)
But choosing the right place to stay still matters. The less time you spend on the road, the more time you spend actually enjoying the island.

Below is our detailed breakdown of the 6 main areas in Siargao where most travelers stay. I’ll start with the more popular areas, then as the list goes on, I’ll venture over to the more remote, laid-back areas.
Some areas are better than others depending on your vibe, but each has its own thing going on.

General Luna
General Luna is the main tourism area and the heart of Siargao’s surf scene. It’s home to the famous Cloud 9 surf break, and it has by far the largest concentration of hostels and hotels.
General Luna’s got shops and surf boutiques, so you can pretty much show up empty-handed and get fitted out. It also has an awesome nightlife scene, where every club has its own night of the week.
Most day tours depart from General Luna. So if you want to visit Sohoton Cove or go Tri-Island hopping, then you will end up going through General Luna anyway.
Needless to say, General Luna is by far the most convenient place to stay in Siargao, and where I recommend most people to stay.

Malinao
Malinao is the area just southwest of General Luna. It’s only a 10-minute motorbike ride away, but it’s quiet and laid-back. Perfect if you want to escape the busyness of General Luna while still being close enough for convenience.
We stayed in Malinao ourselves, and it worked out great for us. Especially on nights out. We could easily catch a tricycle to General Luna, hit up the club, then head back for a peaceful night’s rest.
But Malinao is pretty barebones when it comes to amenities. The area doesn’t have much in the way of restaurants, cafes, or shops. You’ll find yourself heading into General Luna a lot, so I definitely recommend renting a motorbike if you stay in Malinao.

Santa Fe
Santa Fe is another up-and-coming area just north of General Luna, across the Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge (aka Sunset Bridge). It’s a little more developed than Malinao, with a few restaurants. Santa Fe also has nice beaches.
Unlike Malinao, Santa Fe has enough going on that you don’t have to head into General Luna every time you need a meal or something to do. But it’s still close enough that you have the option to.
For accommodations, Santa Fe has a ton of beachfront villas. If you’re looking to book a private place all to yourself, Santa Fe is the spot.

Pacifico
Pacifico is about a 45-minute motorbike ride from General Luna. It’s in a completely different area of the island, tucked away on Siargao’s eastern coastline. Anyone heading out to Pacifico is going there to surf, yoga, and chill rather than party.
Life in the area is centered around Pacifico Beach. It’s a long, white sandy beach with its own surf break. The conditions there are often different than in General Luna, so when Cloud 9 is flat, some people make the trip up to Pacifico to surf.
The area has been slowly developing, with more accommodations popping up along the shoreline. It’s now at a point where you can realistically stay in Pacifico for a few days and keep yourself busy with what’s in the area, especially if you like to surf.

Burgos
Just north of Pacifico, Burgos is a quiet coastal area that’s slowly seeing more homestays and restaurants pop up. It’s remote and far removed from most of the action in Siargao. So why would you want to stay there?
The answer is affordability. You get way more value for your money in Burgos, especially for accommodations. Pretty much an awesome place to unplug and unwind for a few days.
That said, the coastline in Burgos is mostly rocky, so it’s not ideal for swimming. Most people head south to Pacifico or north to Alegria to hit the beach.

Alegria
Finally, at the northern tip of Siargao is Alegria. It’s known for its long white sandy beach, which in our opinion is one of the best beaches in Siargao.
Alegria is all about slow living. Most of its accommodations consist of bungalows and homestays, many of them right on the beach. There’s no nightlife, no big hotels, and no crowds.
If your idea of a perfect stay is chilling by the ocean, walking the beach at sunset, and doing absolutely nothing in between, Alegria is the spot. It’s the ultimate “get away from it all” destination in Siargao.

Where to Stay in General Luna
Las Palmas
Las Palmas strikes a balance of comfort and convenience. The whole place has an upscale, relaxed energy, set around a lush garden and a pool. It somehow retains its peaceful energy while still being right in the middle of General Luna.
Their rooms are immaculately clean and thoughtfully designed. Each room has a private balcony or terrace. Inside are comfy beds, modern bathrooms, and cozy touches like work desks and TVs.
If having some of the nicest rooms in the area isn’t enough, Las Palmas takes it a step further with its service.
Their staff go out of their way to help, whether it’s organizing tours, flagging down tricycles, or handing you a cold drink after a long day. They even have a WhatsApp concierge for anything you need on the fly.

Camanolo Homestay
Camanolo Homestay is a place that looks like a boutique resort but feels like home. That’s because it’s run by a local family who puts real care into making every guest feel welcome.
The homestay consists of handcrafted villas inspired by traditional Filipino payag, and built with native wood by artisans from Davao. Each villa is detached, so you have privacy and space, while still being part of the family-run property.
But the appeal of Camanolo is more than its design.
Its location is close to all of the local restaurants and bars in General Luna, but tucked away down a side road to be insulated from the late-night noise.
Overall, Camanolo Homestay is a good balance of comfort, price, and convenience.

Happiness Hostel
Happiness Hostel is a well-rounded hostel in General Luna. It somehow strikes a balance between social and calm. It has regular activities, communal spaces, but also quiet corners for when you just want to recharge.
The dorms at Happiness are clean, comfortable, and designed with privacy in mind, with a sliding door for each bed.
Overall, Happiness Hostel is perfect for solo travelers who enjoy nightly activities but still want some quiet time when they need it. Its vibe makes it easy to meet people without feeling like you’re in a party zone.

Where to Stay in Malinao
Nay Palad Hideaway
Nay Palad Hideaway is the most exclusive resort in Siargao. It is absolute luxury and the kind of place you choose when you want a completely effortless escape.
First of all, the location.
Nay Palad sits right along a quiet, secluded beach in Malinao, surrounded by swaying palm trees.
And once you arrive, everything is taken care of.
Meals are tailored to your preferences rather than ordered from a menu. Drinks flow freely. And best of all, activities like island hopping, paddleboarding, and surfing are all included.
Their smallest villas are two bedrooms, so Nay Palad is ideal not just for couples but also for families or friends traveling together.
Overall, staying at Nay Palad feels more like being hosted rather than just being a guest. The staff will organize personalized day trips, create curated dining experiences, and make sure every detail is handled before you even think to ask.

Casa Basa
Casa Basa is a boutique stay just outside of General Luna. It’s perfect if you want a quieter, more personal experience without giving up comfort.
Casa Basa only has four rooms, so you get a more personalized experience. Their staff are helpful with tour arrangements, greeting you like old friends, and making you feel truly looked after.
Their rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable. But they have everything you need, like split system AC, full-length mirrors, and workspaces with fast Starlink Wi-Fi. There’s also a pool and a lounge.
Overall, Casa Basa is a place that blends hotel-level amenities with the charm of a homestay.

Hostel Bajala
Hostel Bajala is where we stayed during our time in Malinao. It’s located in a quiet area, just across the road from the beach and a short ride from General Luna.
Each dorm at Hostel Bajala has only six beds. Each bed has its own personal outlet, reading light, and a locker built right into the headboard.
The vibe at Bajala is easygoing. You can be part of the action or keep to yourself, depending on how you’re feeling that day. And since the dorms are set back from the front, things stay quiet where it matters.
The main building at Hostel Bajala houses Little Rotti, an Indian restaurant and bar. They serve excellent food and have nightly DJ sets to create a vibe in the common area. And with the daily free drink token, it’s a good spot to wind down after a long day at the pool, or pregame before a night out.
Overall, Hostel Bajala is a solid choice if you’re looking for a more laid-back hostel atmosphere away from the craziness of General Luna, but still close enough to hit up the bars and clubs when you want to.

Where to Stay in Santa Fe
Manao Villas
Manao Villas is a quiet retreat perfect for couples or small groups looking for a stylish base near General Luna without the noise. It’s tucked away in Santa Fe and just a short stroll from the beach.
The property has two villas. Each villa is fully self-contained, so you have your own personal space to enjoy, with a private pool, a fully equipped kitchen, and a cozy indoor-outdoor space that makes it easy to relax.
Overall, Manao Villas is ideal if you’re looking for a private “home-away-from-home” that blends tropical elements with a modern finish.

Villa Juan
Villa Juan is its own private, standalone villa in Santa Fe. You get the entire place to yourself, and even better, it has direct access to a peaceful stretch of beach.
The space in the villa is furnished with a work desk, minibar, and an open-plan bathroom. On the outside, there’s a shaded terrace overlooking a garden with the beach just beyond.
Speaking of the beach, it is quiet and uncrowded. It’s ideal for morning swims, sunset strolls, or simply doing nothing at all.
Overall, Villa Juan is a good choice if you want to stay away from the crowds and settle into a beachfront stay while still being a motorbike ride away from General Luna.

ShakaBrah Hostel
If you’re traveling on a shoestring budget but still want a beachfront stay, ShakaBrah Hostel is hard to beat. It’s a small hostel, but its setting is incredible. It’s set right on a quiet white-sand beach in Santa Fe, with its own peaceful garden area.
The setup is simple. Dorms come in fan or air-conditioned options, with mosquito nets, lockers, and shared bathrooms. The common areas consist of a beachfront bar, a kitchen, and hangout zones in the garden. The on-site restaurant serves Vietnamese coffee and food.
But make no mistake, ShakaBrah is as basic as it gets: no hot water, no free toiletries, and some pay-per-use policies (like towels). But what you get in return is beachfront access, relaxed vibes, and an easy escape from the crowds.

Where to Stay in Pacifico
Trogon’s Perch
Trogon’s Perch is easily the most luxurious place to stay in Pacifico. It’s a stylish boutique retreat with a relaxed atmosphere that prioritizes space and scenery.
First of all, its location.
It’s perched out on a bluff overlooking the coastline, giving you a panoramic view of Pacifico.
Every room has a private balcony and a lounge area facing the sea. The double-glazed doors and split AC make each room quiet and comfortable. And breakfast is included, so slow mornings are best spent soaking in the ocean views from your room.
The hotel’s grounds include an open-air restaurant and an infinity pool. There’s even a fitness center, which is rare for accommodations in Siargao.
Overall, Trogon’s Perch is ideal if you’re looking for a calm escape into Siargao’s quieter side.

Bamboo Surf Beach
Bamboo Surf Beach is a relaxed beachfront stay in Pacifico. It has direct access to a quiet surf break along one of the most scenic stretches of coastline on Siargao’s east side.
Rooms at Bamboo Surf Beach are clean and spacious, with a swimming pool and a shaded lounge space in the common areas.
As the name implies, it’s the ideal spot if you’re looking for a surf retreat. There are board rentals just out front. Perfect for beginner surfers looking to catch waves without crowds.
It’s also conveniently located along Pacifico’s main road, within walking distance of many cafes and restaurants.
Overall, Bamboo Surf Beach is the kind of place where you wake up for a sunrise surf session, come back for breakfast, then relax in the pool for a bit before heading out to surf again.

LaFinca Hostel
If you’re looking for a budget stay in Pacifico that doesn’t cut corners on comfort, LaFinca Hostel is your jam. It’s a boutique-style hostel that caters mostly to surfers, digital nomads, and backpackers who prefer a relaxed vibe over a party scene.
The property has a large common area, a fully equipped kitchen, fast Wi-Fi, and of course, surfboard storage. Each dorm has eight beds, each with privacy curtains, individual reading lights, charging ports, and two bathrooms.
Overall, if you’re looking for a relaxed surf retreat in Pacifico without breaking the bank, then LaFinca Hostel is a solid choice.

Where to Stay in Burgos
Izustarri
Izustarri is one of the most unique places to stay in Siargao.
First of all, its brutalist concrete architecture really stands out. Especially when contrasted against the surrounding sea of palm trees.
Second, the entire property is solar-powered. It isn’t just sustainable, it’s also practical because Siargao’s electrical grid is notorious for blackouts.
And third, the hotel is perched high up on sea cliffs. It feels like a true escape. There’s nothing else around. If you’re looking to unplug and disappear for a while, this is exactly the place to do it.
The on-site restaurant serves international cuisine, including vegetarian and vegan options, while the rooftop terrace and bar are perfect for catching the sunset.
Overall, Izustarri is a good spot to retreat into the wilderness of Siargao.

Villa Malinao Oceanview Resort
Villa Malinao Oceanview Resort is a simple, affordable stay right along the Burgos shoreline. It’s a low-key location that’s ideal if you’re looking to relax or explore the north of the island.
Their rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable, all with AC. The beach is just steps away, perfect for morning swims. There’s also a shared outdoor area with tables and chairs if you just want to lounge and take in the view.
Overall, if you’re after a peaceful beach retreat to relax and surf, Villa Malinao Oceanview Resort is a solid choice. You can wake up to the sunrise over the ocean and end the day with a bonfire by the beach.

Where to Stay in Alegria
DaRosa Del Mar
DaRosa Del Mar is a quiet, beachfront escape tucked along the shores of Alegria. It has direct access to the beach and really captures the laid-back vibe of north Siargao.
The property consists of six individual bungalows, each with its own private lanai, mini fridge, coffee maker, and desk.
Best of all, the property makes it easy for you to stay put. Start your day with coffee on the beach. Grab lunch at the on-site restaurant. Then spend the afternoon kayaking, paddleboarding, or snorkeling with gear that’s included in your stay.
Overall, if you’re looking for a quiet getaway on the beach in Alegria, DaRosa Del Mar is a solid choice.

Masayay Homestay
Masayay Homestay is a family-run guesthouse where you can experience local hospitality.
It’s the kind of place where you can really get to know the hosts over home-cooked meals or celebrations. It’s definitely not a resort. Staying there feels less like booking a room and more like being welcomed into a home.
While it’s not beachfront, the homestay has everything you need: fast Starlink Wi-Fi, a shared kitchen, and even karaoke and badminton equipment.
Overall, if you’re looking to slow down and connect with local life on the quiet north shore of Siargao, Masayay Homestay is a solid pick.

What to Pack for Siargao
Here are some of our must-have items you might not have thought of when packing for a trip to Siargao.
- Crocs: During our time in Siargao, I was so glad to have Crocs to protect my feet when exploring caves and islands. They are the ultimate shoe in the Philippines for a reason – many Filipinos wear them too!
- Earplugs: If you’re planning to do any island hopping while in Siargao, I recommend bringing a set of earplugs for the boat rides. Most boats in Siargao have super loud diesel engines that will make your ears ring!
- Sunscreen: For some reason, sunscreen is expensive in the Philippines and I’ve even encountered places selling fake sunscreen that doesn’t work! So I recommend bringing your own sunscreen to Siargao.
- Dry Bag: With all the sand, salt, and water flying everywhere during our adventures out to Siargao’s islands, I was so glad to have a dry bag to keep all my things safe from the elements!
- Travel Towel: In my opinion, a travel towel like this one is super necessary for a trip to Siargao! It packs down nicely and was there for me anytime I went swimming, or just needed to brush sand or dirt off.
